Why you should automatically export your data to Power BI?
Ermeo allows you to collect datas from the field but also to analyze it using tools like Power BI. Power BI is a software used to transform data sources into interactive visual information. You can thus visualize and use those datas collected from Ermeo by creating your own dashboards.
How to automatically export your data to Power BI?
Context: The objective is to retrieve the data collected from Ermeo to then display it on Power BI. In the images proposed below, we will use data found in a database called 'Antennas'.
First, we'll export the data we want to analyze in Power BI. In the example detailed below, this data will be resources.
Step 1: Select data
First of all, you need to select the resources you want to analyze. You can select the database containing these resources on the Databases tab.
You can also select your resources, by creating a filter in the Resource tree tab.
Then select the resources to be exported to Power BI.
Once you've made your selection, click the exports button and select Export to Power BI.
Step 2: Configure the automatic export
Once the resources have been selected, we will configure the automatic export.
An introductory window allowing export to Power BI appears. Click on Start.
Choose a name for your export. This will allow you to find your export in the list of exports.
If you have chosen to export a database, the attributes are selected automatically.
If the resources were selected from the resource tree, the attributes must be chosen manually.
Step 3: API key generation
Once the export parameters have been defined, Ermeo is responsible for generating an API key.
What is the API key?
The API key is a code generated by Ermeo allowing you to identify you as a user. This key should be inserted in a URL link in the next step.
This step only appears the first time you perform an automatic export to Power BI. You will be asked for the API key for each automatic export to Power BI that you perform. Click Generate API Key. Copy and paste this link into your favorite text editor.
Warning ! The key you generate will no longer be shown to you. Be sure to save it. A file containing this key is also downloaded when you click Generate my API key. Accept the download if requested.
Step 4: Generate the link for your automatic export
Once you have successfully registered your API key, click Next to go to the last step. In this step, a link is generated. This link will allow you to automatically link your export from Ermeo to Power BI.
- Copy and paste this URL link into your favorite text editor.
- Replace the term {your_api_key} with your own API key generated in step 3. You will then get the link to be inserted into Power BI.
- In Power BI, go to the Home tab, and click Get Data. From the drop-down list, select Web. A window will open in which you can paste your link. Click on OK.
Step 5: Transform data on Power BI
Please note, in order to rename the created table, click on Transform data, and rename the Power BI table you want to create in the Name field of the Properties on the right of the window. Then click Close & Apply.
Once your data has been imported, you can start creating dashboards!
Don't panic, your data will update automatically every night. Just click Refresh from time to time to update your data!
The number of automated exports is limited to 10 by default. Don't hesitate to delete the automatic exports that you are not using. If you want to upgrade this limit, don't hesitate to contact your Account Manager.
